NURSING HOMES AND ELDERLY CARE FACILITIES

Village at Fillmore Pond - Bennington Vermont

To meet a program requiring heating, ventilation and air conditioning for an 80 unit elderly care facility with full service dining, and at a cost that would meet the project budget, we linked up with Build Tech Systems to propose a water source heat pump system for the project. This challenged the Owner to look at a system that was different from his 4 pipe fan coil system of choice. The water source system fit nicely into the architectural scheme of the building and surpassed all of the Owner\'92s expectations. A noticeable savings in energy cost was a bonus. (Architect: The Architectural Team, Chelsea, MA; Build Tech Systems, No. Springfield, VT)

INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING

Omega Optical - Brattleboro, Vermont

A very successful Owner asked to have a new facility built that worked with the scheme of an old rural Vermont factory, but had all of the practical accommodation of a modern, energy efficient industrial plant. We worked very close with company officials to refine the mechanical systems to take advantage of heat rejected by the process and re-distribute it to useful operations, such as administrative, warehouse, and shipping. A water source heat pump system was selected because of process equipment use of plant water for equipment cooling. This same water was used to supply water source heat pumps that supplied all of the heating and cooling to the facility. A large ventilation load and two work shifts of operation dictated the use of a central system energy recovery air handling system. A complete plumbing system was also provided to service domestic use as well as plant systems. (Architect: Jeremy Coleman AIA, Brattleboro, Vermont; Mechanical Contractor: Build Tech Systems, No. Springfield, Vermont)

Putney Pasta - Chester, Vermont

A fast track design to accommodate the construction of a food process steam system to meet the deadline of a customer's order of pasta was a challenge for both JFPCS and Vermont Mechanical, Inc. A two week period was all we were given to design and install a steam boiler, 150 feet of steam piping, and a culinary steam filter package with testing and distribution control station. Research and availability of special pieces of equipment narrowed our design system of choice and ultimately led us to a system completion in just 12 days. (Mechanical Contractor: Vermont Mechanical, Inc.)

COMMERCIAL

Ascutney Mountain Resort - Brownsville, Vermont

The twenty year old pool systems could no longer meet the dehumidification needs of this 5800 SF facility. A plate type air-to-air heat exchanger was selected to replace the dehumidification units. Taking advantage of the seasonal dry air conditions of the northeast make these systems an excellent choice in pool dehumidification and ventilation.

American Legion - Chester, VT

A 7,000 SF lounge and function hall with a commercial kitchen designed by architect Frank J. Barrett, Jr.  The system design includes rooftop HVAC, plumbing, and electrical engineering.  Packaged rooftop air handling equipment was chosen to take advantage of economizer cooling and to work within the owner's budget.  A central boiler plant provides central heating and domestic hot water.  The selected boilers were chosen for their high efficiency.  The main function hall was designed with the flexibility to split into two separate units in order to accommodate both small and large occupancies, optimizing economy of operation.

RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS

Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Ludlow, Vermont

A design build project that evolved into a 4000 SF gathering space with full service kitchen and classroom facilities for weekly church suppers and religious education classes. Church officials were given several options with cost considerations to determine the extent of building mechanical system zoning and control. After careful consideration a hydronic baseboard system was selected. A fan coil system was selected for ambient air cooling and ventilation. A simple programmable thermostat with unoccupied set-back provides zone control. Energy efficient boiler control and a manual ventilation system was also installed. (Mechanical Contractor: Build Tech Systems, Inc.)
